What sets YOU apart?
Journal #3: Describe the key takeaways for you so far with the module.
From writing brand voice, narratives to emails, landing pages and websites, how can you apply what you have learned at work? Provide at least two examples.
Key Takeaway
Good writing is pointless without research. You can write a good piece and it might not reach the right audience. You need to know the trends and keywords that the majority of the people are looking for. It is not good enough to sound formal or polite. Sometimes, doing so might even miss the objective. You need to be intentional in how you write or express your brand. A simple greeting should be enough to grab the readers attention and show them what you are about. Show the reader why they should read further. There needs to be a connection, or for existing customers, a maintaining of relationship.
Example at Work
In the office, I send out circulars to staff with regards to IT-related announcements. I have to avoid jargon or technical terms. The tone I put on is more of a teacher or instructor. When giving out warnings, I have to be clear but still sound approachable. For example, "To avoid licensing issues, you need the IT administrator's permission when downloading any software. You may approach EMJ or Jenny for help."
Application for Personal Branding
I apply these principles most with my personal portfolio website for freelancing. Because I am selling myself as an esports host, I have to be more personable. I try to emulate my esports persona into the copy writing in my website especially when talking about my experiences. This is hard when you know people are not here to read but to see what I can offer, thus I focus on the visuals more by adding video clips or links.
